Kurdish Christians often remain out of sight, far away, and rarely feature in the news. We believe their story needs to be heard, including in The Hague. That is why, on 31 March 2026, the Rozia Foundation submitted a briefing note for the debate in the House of Representatives on the persecution of Christians worldwide.
Our voice for Kurdish Christians
In our briefing, we described the daily plight of Christian Kurds in Syria, Iraq and Iran, including many people who converted to Christianity from Islam. We based our account on reliable sources, such as the Open Doors World Watch List, as well as on what we have heard directly from the community itself. Several Members of Parliament took our input into account during the debate.
Two motions adopted
On 7 April 2026, the House of Representatives voted on the motions. The first, concerning the protection of people who change their religion, received the support of all parties (150–0). The second, on religious freedom in the new Syrian constitution, was passed with 131 votes in favour and 19 against.
For us, this is more than just politics. Behind these motions are real people: Kurds and Christians who want to live in freedom, without fear of who they are or what they believe. Standing up for their rights is an integral part of everything we do, alongside sharing a message of hope and offering practical support for affected families.
