In March 2026 the Dutch House of Representatives held a round-table discussion on the situation of the Kurds in north-eastern Syria: the humanitarian need and human rights in the region. It was prompted by the heavy fighting in early 2026 between the Syrian government and the Kurds.

Our contribution

For this discussion, Rozia Foundation submitted a position paper to the standing committee on Foreign Affairs. In it, we asked for attention to the protection of civilians and religious minorities, including Kurdish Christians, and for de-escalation of the violence.

For us, this is part of standing up for the Kurdish people, alongside practical emergency aid and sharing a message of hope. We will keep drawing attention to their situation, including in The Hague.
